Pentagon Launches New Website to Provide Declassified Information on UAPs
The Defense Department has unveiled a new website aimed at providing the public with declassified information about unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs), formerly known as UFOs. The website serves as a central hub for information related to the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) and UAPs. It features photos, videos, and brief descriptions of resolved UAP cases as they are declassified and made available to the public. Additionally, the site will allow service members, federal employees, and contractors with direct knowledge of government programs or activities related to UAPs to submit reports for review by the AARO.
Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, stated that the launch of the website demonstrates the department’s commitment to transparency with the American people regarding AARO’s work on UAPs. The site currently includes a message from Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, the director of AARO, as well as the office’s mission and vision. It also features videos depicting unresolved military encounters with UAPs and a report on UAP reporting trends.
UAPs are objects detected in the air, sea, and space that cannot be identified. According to a report from the intelligence community, there have been over 500 UAP sightings in the last 17 years, with many reported by U.S. Navy and Air Force personnel. Despite the numerous sightings, the AARO has found no credible evidence of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics.
The establishment of the AARO was authorized by Congress in the 2021 defense policy bill and is recognized as the leading federal agency for UAP efforts. Lawmakers from both parties are now seeking to use the National Defense Authorization Act as a means to compel the federal government to release more information about UAPs. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Mike Rounds introduced an amendment that would mandate the creation of the “UAP Records Collection” by the National Archives and Records Administration. The collection would house information from federal agencies related to UAPs, with a presumption of immediate disclosure.
Congressional interest in UAPs has grown in recent years, with a significant moment occurring in July when the House Oversight Committee held a hearing featuring testimony from former military intelligence officers and fighter pilots who had encountered UAPs. In response to the hearing, a bipartisan group of House members called for the formation of a select committee to investigate the federal response to UAPs.
The Pentagon’s new website aims to provide the public with access to declassified information on UAPs, fostering greater transparency and understanding of these mysterious phenomena. As more information becomes available and declassified, the site will be updated to keep the public informed.
