NASCAR successfully held its preseason exhibition race on a ¼-mile asphalt track inside a sports coliseum in Los Angeles. The unexpected move saw increased TV ratings and attendance in the first two years, compared to when it was held at Daytona. The last race, won by Denny Hamlin, was moved forward due to impending severe weather, but was completed alongside the NASCAR Mexico event before the weather worsened. Although the original three-year deal for the race in Los Angeles has ended, NASCAR officials have yet to commit on its future. Many drivers, including Kyle Larson and Joey Logano, praised NASCAR’s innovation and believe this model could be replicated in different locations to grow the sport’s fan base.
