Benny unexpectedly passed away in his sleep with no prior health issues, though an unexplained infection in his stomach that reached his brain may have caused his death. In an effort to support Benny’s grieving parents, Eric and Natalie, the community has started a campaign called #BennysBlueLights, where homes and businesses are displaying blue lights in memory of Benny. A meal train organized by Benny’s father’s co-workers has provided food for the family and raised over $100,000. The family has expressed gratitude for the community’s support, and Benny’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday.
