William Patrick “Pat” Kruer, a successful real estate developer and prominent political figure in San Diego, died last month at 78 after a prolonged fight with Parkinson’s disease. Kruer was known for his strong personality, storytelling abilities, and his dedication to the Democratic Party. He was instrumental in electing Democrats at every level of government, including former Vice President Al Gore, California Sen. Alan Cranston and a host of state and local representatives. Kruer served on the California Coastal Commission, striking a balance between his roles as a real estate developer and protector of the coast. He is survived by his two ex-wives, two daughters, and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
