Jim Harbaugh to leave Michigan to coach the LA Chargers

11

Jim Harbaugh has been hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving Michigan after leading the football program to its first national championship since 1997. Harbaugh, who previously played for the Chargers and was the first former player to return as head coach, signed a five-year deal. He was the first coach in 26 years to win a national title and not return to the school the following season. Harbaugh’s move to the Chargers followed the firing of previous coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco. Harbaugh will lead a team that has struggled recently, but has access to a top quarterback, Justin Herbert, and the fifth overall pick in April’s draft.
