Community space for disability services, awareness opens on Main Campus

TechOWL, Pennsylvania’s assistive technology program, has opened a new community space for technology demonstrations and community events in Philadelphia. Funded by a $500,000 grant from the Department of Education, the space will showcase assistive technologies for Pennsylvanians with disabilities, from wheelchairs to adaptive gaming controllers. The community space, the first of its kind among TechOWL’s 10 locations in the state, also features a workspace for creating custom technology orders using 3D printers. Pennsylvanians can borrow or keep requested equipment through TechOWL’s Lending Library or Reused Equipment Program. Future plans for the community space include hosting disability-focused activities and workshops teaching individuals with disabilities how to create their own technology and repair equipment.
