“Republicans brand Sinema as a ‘liberal Democrat’ linked to Biden in new ad”

TL/DR –

The Senate Republican campaign arm has launched an attack ad against Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, linking her with President Joe Biden and his policies. The ad is part of a strategy to weaken Sinema’s standing with Arizona Republicans ahead of a potential re-election bid in 2024. A recent survey from the National Republican Senatorial Committee found that Sinema is third in a hypothetical three-way race, with Democratic Representative Ruben Gallego leading, followed by Republican candidate Kari Lake.

Sin. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., Targeted by GOP in Senate Election Strategy

The Senate Republican campaign arm launched an attack ad on Monday against Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz., as she weighs a 2024 re-election bid. The ad brands Sinema as a left-leaning Democrat and links her to President Biden.

The ad suggests Sinema could secure more Republican votes in Arizona than Democratic ones if she seeks a second term. The ad states, “Sinema voted for President Biden’s agenda 100% of the time, backed Biden’s green energy bill, even helped pass Biden’s American Rescue Plan.”.

This digital ad campaign, funded by a five-figure allocation, will be aired in Arizona, said a spokesperson for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). This ad is seen as a strategy by the GOP to weaken Sinema’s support among Arizona Republicans before the critical Senate race.

Sinema, initially a Democrat when elected to the Senate in 2018, left the party last year. Despite aligning with Biden on 94% of votes, according to FiveThirtyEight, she has often been a hurdle for the president’s agenda.

The NRSC ad criticizes both Sinema and Democratic nomination front-runner, Rep. Ruben Gallego, stating Arizonans “deserve a better senator” and derogatorily highlighting Gallego’s personal life. Gallego’s campaign responded by accusing the NRSC of launching a baseless personal attack ad.

A recent NRSC poll shows Gallego leading in a three-way Arizona race with 41%, followed by Republican candidate and former gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake at 37%, and Sinema trailing at 17%. The survey found that Sinema draws more votes from Lake, a Trump-endorsed election denier, than Gallego.

David Bergstein, the communications director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, claimed the new ad signifies GOP’s worries about Lake’s prospects, and indicated that Lake is seen as a problem candidate for the Senate Republicans in Arizona.
