71-Year-Old Landlord Charged with Murder and Hate Crime in Illinois
A 71-year-old man was recently charged with murder and a hate crime in Plainfield, Illinois. The suspect, identified as Joseph M Czuba, is accused of stabbing a six-year-old boy and his mother, both of Muslim faith, resulting in the child’s death and leaving the mother in serious condition.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the 32-year-old mother placed an emergency call claiming her landlord, Czuba, had attacked them with a knife at their residence.
Detectives Attribute Attack to Anti-Muslim Sentiment
The Will County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Detectives were able to confirm that the victims were targeted due to their Muslim faith and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and Israelis.” Both victims were found in their home, each suffering over a dozen knife wounds.
Czuba was located nearby and police later determined he was the property’s landlord. The Sheriff’s office stated, “Despite the suspect not providing a statement, personnel were able to gather enough information through interviews and evidence to formally charge Joseph Czuba with numerous criminal offenses.”
Victims Found with Multiple Stab Wounds
Czuba was charged with murder, two counts of hate crimes, and other offenses. The child was pronounced deceased at a local hospital, while the mother remains in serious condition but expected to recover.
CAIR International Expresses Shock and Disturbance
CAIR International, the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the US, expressed their shock and disturbance in a statement, “We are disturbed to learn that a landlord in Chicago expressing anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian views attacked a Muslim family, injuring the mother and killing her 6-year-old son, Wadea Al-Fayoume.”
