## One Medical CEO Amir Dan Rubin to Depart Later This Year

One Medical’s CEO Amir Dan Rubin is set to leave the primary care provider later in the year. Rubin’s departure comes nearly a year after One Medical was acquired by e-commerce giant Amazon.

In an internal memo obtained by CNBC, Neil Lindsay, who heads Amazon Health Services, announced Rubin’s impending departure. He noted Rubin’s significant contributions to One Medical over his six-year tenure, during which he guided the organization to new levels of impact.

## Trent Green to Replace Rubin as CEO

Rubin will be succeeded by Trent Green, One Medical’s current chief operating officer, as per the internal memo. The Washington Post was the first to report Rubin’s departure.

In a separate memo to employees, Rubin described his successor as a “highly effective, experienced and values-driven leader”. He expressed excitement about One Medical’s future prospects as part of Amazon.

## Amazon’s Acquisition of One Medical

Amazon announced in July 2022 that it would acquire One Medical for approximately $3.9 billion, marking its third-largest acquisition and a significant move into the health-care market. After the Federal Trade Commission chose not to challenge the deal, Amazon finalized the acquisition in February.

## Executives Departing Post-Amazon Acquisition

Rubin’s decision to leave follows a trend of executives departing after their companies are acquired by Amazon. Last September, TJ Parker and Elliot Cohen, co-founders of prescription drug company PillPack, left Amazon four years after the startup’s acquisition. In March, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear resigned from Amazon, and Whole Foods CEO John Mackey retired last year.

## Mixed Success in Amazon’s Healthcare Ventures

Amazon’s ventures into healthcare, including the acquisitions of One Medical and PillPack and the development of in-house services, have met with mixed success. In August last year, the company closed down its Amazon Care telehealth service as part of broader cost-cutting measures. A health care disrupting joint venture, Haven, disbanded in 202.

However, Amazon recently expanded a virtual health clinic service and runs an online pharmacy. Despite challenges, these developments indicate Amazon’s continued interest and investment in the health care sector.
