Title: Man Accused of Shooting Police Officer in Algona Taken into Custody

ALGONA, Iowa – The Iowa State Patrol announced on Wednesday that the man accused of shooting a police officer in Algona has been taken into custody around midnight, approximately four hours after the shooting occurred.

According to the patrol, the incident took place at around 8 p.m. on the 1100 block of South Minnesota Street. The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Kyle Lou Ricke from Algona. The condition of the injured officer is currently unknown.

Following the arrest, the state patrol has cancelled a Blue Alert, which is issued to alert law enforcement when a dangerous suspect is on the loose and poses a threat to officers. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s office has given the “all clear” signal, indicating that the immediate threat has been neutralized.

It has been revealed that Ricke had been facing legal issues in the weeks leading up to the shooting. Online court records indicate that he had attended a court hearing just hours before the incident took place. Ricke was charged with third-degree harassment on August 28.

According to the criminal complaint, Ricke’s ex-partner informed law enforcement on August 23 that he had bombarded her with numerous text messages and multiple phone calls within a span of two hours. The officer investigating the complaint found that Ricke had resorted to name-calling and continued to harass the woman through the messages. As a result, the officer warned Ricke about the consequences of his actions and advised him not to contact the woman further, or he would face charges of harassment.

However, despite the warning, the woman contacted the officer four days later, on August 27, stating that Ricke had continued to send her text messages and emails. The next day, Ricke admitted to contacting the woman and was subsequently arrested and charged.

Ricke was released on bond from the Kossuth County Jail on August 29. He appeared in court on the morning of the shooting, during which his trial date was set for November 3.

The arrest of Ricke brings a sense of relief and closure to the community of Algona, as law enforcement agencies can now focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and further details will be revealed as the case progresses.
