Birmingham Club Shooting Leaves Two Dead and Three Injured
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the early hours of Monday morning, a shooting at a Birmingham club has resulted in the deaths of two people and left three others injured. The incident occurred at 2:37 a.m. at the Aria Lounge and Restaurant located on 5th Avenue North in the Smithfield area.
The victims attempted to seek treatment at UAB Hospital, but as they arrived in a private vehicle, they were shot at again, according to the Birmingham Police Department. The UAB Hospital Emergency Room and an unoccupied UAB police vehicle were also targeted, prompting the hospital to be placed on lockdown.
Tragically, two women, aged 24 and 33, lost their lives at UAB Hospital. Initial indications from the police suggest that those who were shot were likely innocent victims. Additionally, two other women and a man were injured in the shooting. Family members anxiously gathered outside the hospital, awaiting updates on their loved ones. The condition of the three injured individuals remains uncertain at this time.
The Birmingham police Chief, Scott Thurmond, expressed his sorrow in a statement released on Monday. He said, “As a result, we have two women whose lives were cut entirely too short. Two families were destroyed, and three other victims will have to live with the scars of this senseless violence for the rest of their lives.” Thurmond emphasized the desire of the majority of citizens for a safer and better Birmingham. However, he lamented the existence of a small group that resorts to resolving conflicts through gunfire. Thurmond assured that the city and its leadership will continue working diligently to hold those accountable for such acts of senseless violence. He urged everyone to unite in preventing and eliminating future acts of violence, emphasizing that guns only create bigger problems and destroy families and the city itself.
