**Climate Change Protests Lead to 20 Arrests Outside Bank of America**

Reported by Eyewitness News on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, a climate change protest outside Bank of America led to the arrest of at least 20 people. The protest, which was largely peaceful, was disrupted when 11 women and nine men were charged with civil disobedience. Most of the arrested protesters are expected to be processed and released.

**Bank’s Role in Fossil Fuels Under Scrutiny**

The protestors cited Bank of America as the third-largest financier of fossil fuels as their reason for the protest. This demonstration followed another large-scale climate change demonstration on Wall Street the previous day. More than 100 people were arrested during the Wall Street protest, with a total of 114 protestors taken into custody in Lower Manhattan, all charged with civil disobedience.

**Protests to Continue throughout U.N. General Assembly Week**

Despite these arrests, the group has vowed to continue their activism throughout the week during the U.N. General Assembly. Activist Alicé Nascimento of New York Communities for Change stated, “This is our last resort. We’re bringing the crisis to their doorstep and this is what it looks like.” The primary goal of the protestors is to demand an end to fossil fuel financing, which they believe is crucial for future generations.

**High Turnout at Other Climate Protests**

In a parallel event, tens of thousands of protesters gathered on the Upper East Side to march against fossil fuels, shouting that their future and lives depend on ending the use of such fuels. Organizers estimated the number of participants to be approximately 75,000.
