Conservatives Hold Telethon to Support Individuals Charged in Michigan Election Nullification Case

In a unique fundraising effort, conservatives are organizing a telethon to support 16 individuals who have been charged for allegedly attempting to nullify Michigan’s 2020 presidential election results. The telethon, hosted by the Grand New Party, a group of Michigan Republicans who believe the current party is not conservative enough, is aimed at raising funds for the legal defense of the 16 electors. These individuals are being prosecuted by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel for opposing what they perceive as voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Shane Trejo, the executive director of the Grand New Party, stated that they formed the idea of the telethon to support the 16 electors who are facing what they believe to be malicious prosecution. The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will be livestreamed on the far-right website The Gateway Pundit.

The telethon is expected to feature various special guests, including Kari Lake, a candidate for the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial race, and Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist during Donald Trump’s administration. Additionally, the event will include hours of original content, such as interviews with loved ones of the 16 charged individuals, with the aim of preventing their dehumanization.

In July, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced charges against the 16 individuals accused of scheming to replace Michigan’s electoral college representatives. These representatives were supposed to cast their votes for President Joe Biden but were allegedly planned to be replaced by a slate of pro-Trump Republicans. The charges against the individuals include conspiracy to commit forgery, forgery, uttering and publishing, and election law forgery. If convicted, they could face a maximum of 14 years in prison.

The Grand New Party’s Facebook page has urged people to spread the word about the telethon, calling for a stand against “Democrat tyrants” who they claim are at war with their rights. It remains to be seen how successful the telethon will be in raising funds and support for the 16 charged individuals, but it is an unorthodox approach that highlights the deep divisions and ongoing disputes surrounding the 2020 election results.
