SALINE, Mich. (FOX 2) – A male suspect has been arrested following an active shooter situation in Saline that occurred at multiple locations within the city. Two people were injured in the shooting, including a 40-year-old female who is currently in critical condition.

According to Saline Police Chief Marlene Radzik, the suspect is a 58-year-old man from Lenawee County and is an ex-boyfriend of the victim. The shooting took place at the UAW Hall, located across from an assisted living center on Woodland Drive. The victim, who was walking to her car for a smoke break, was targeted by the shooter. A male acquaintance who was with the victim also sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition.

Chief Radzik described the relationship between the suspect and victim as a “domestic relationship.” The suspect fled the scene after the shooting, prompting a call to the police. He was later apprehended after a head-on crash that occurred during a pursuit by law enforcement.

A Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle and initiated the pursuit. The chase ended with a head-on collision on Willis Road near Ann Arbor-Saline Road. The deputy instructed the suspect to exit the vehicle, but when he failed to comply, he was tased. The local police department received assistance from the Michigan State Police, the FBI, and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office during the incident.

Authorities also recovered a weapon at the crash scene, further corroborating the suspect’s involvement in the shooting. Saline Police Chief Radzik emphasized the significance of the incident, stating, “This is a big one for our community.”

Interestingly, prior to the shooting, police officers were conducting active shooter training at Saline High School. When they received reports of the shooting, they quickly responded to the scene with great cooperation.
