Special interests spend big in Silicon Valley congressional race

The race to replace California’s 16th congressional district representative, Anna Eshoo, has seen a significant influx of special interest spending. Four candidates, Peter Dixon, Evan Low, Joe Simitian, and Sam Liccardo, have received funding from Super Political Action Committees (super PACs), which unlike typical PACs, have no spending limit and do not directly donate to campaign committees. Total super PAC spending in the race amounts to $1,923,185. Super PACs are reportedly spending more due to the open seat, supporting candidates they believe will protect their interests. The race is reportedly influenced by digital and mail advertising, with Peter Dixon receiving the most spending on his behalf.
