A rescued baby seal, who was found wandering the streets of Ocean City, has died after a rapid decline in health. The male grey seal pup was being treated at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine for parasites and a possible respiratory infection, and was also underweight. Despite initial signs of improvement, the seal’s health suddenly deteriorated. The pup was between 4-6 weeks old, weighed less than 29 pounds and a full necropsy will be performed to understand the reason behind his rapid health decline. The MMSC has urged drivers in shore communities to be alert for lost seals, especially during the current grey seal pup migration season.
