N.J. electric vehicle mandate getting a mixed reaction

A recent Rutgers-Eagleton poll revealed that a significant number of New Jersey residents do not support the state’s plans to phase out the sale of all new gas-powered cars and trucks by 2035. The plan, announced by Governor Phil Murphy last November, is part of the Advanced Clean Cars II program, which is expected to improve air quality and lower the state’s greenhouse gas emissions. However, 50% of those polled opposed the plan, with 44% believing it would negatively impact the economy and 47% predicting a negative effect on their personal finances. The survey also found that more than half of respondents were unlikely to consider buying an electric vehicle due to associated costs, despite the introduction of a federal tax credit of $7,500 this year.
