Donald Trump compared his own legal troubles to the treatment of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, stating that the prosecutions against him are politically driven. In a Fox News Channel town hall, Trump referred to his criminal indictments, which include two cases related to his efforts to overturn his 2020 defeat, as proof that the U.S. is becoming a communist country. He also related his legal issues to his recent loss in a civil fraud case, where he was ordered to pay $355 million in penalties for lying about his wealth. Trump did not clearly state whether he would post a bond for the judgement, a requirement for an appeal. He made no mention of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who he has often complimented in the past.
