Herbert Wigwe, CEO of one of Nigeria’s largest banks, Access Bank, his wife and son, and former chair of NGX Group, Bamofin Abimbola Ogunbanjo, were among the six people killed in a helicopter crash near Interstate 15 in Southern California’s Mojave Desert. The helicopter, an Airbus EC-130, was on a charter flight operated by Orbic Air LLC and crashed due to reasons currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. Wigwe was recognized as an industry leader, having been involved in two of Nigeria’s biggest banks and under his leadership, Access Bank’s assets grew beyond national borders. His death is seen as a significant loss for Nigeria and Africa’s banking industry.
