The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning for south and east San Diego County, which was lifted roughly 15 minutes later. The warning was triggered by a rotating column of air in a thunderstorm, which, according to meteorologist Alex Tardy, can indicate a potential tornado forming. The warning covered an area that included 620,000 people, 164 schools, and five hospitals, and extended to several areas including Chula Vista, El Cajon, National City, and more. Residents were warned to stay indoors and away from windows due to potential damage. Despite the severity of the warning, no tornado damage has been reported.
