Arlene Alvarez killed: Harris County DA to re-examine case of 9-year-old girl shot on Valentine’s Day, family hopeful for justice
Two years after the shooting death of 9-year-old Arlene Alvarez, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that the case will be re-examined by a special prosecutor. The child was killed on Valentine’s Day in 2022 when Tony Earls, who was being robbed at gunpoint, shot at the passing car she was in, believing it to be a getaway vehicle. Earls was arrested and charged with aggravated assault but was released after a grand jury declined to indict him. Earls currently has an active warrant for his arrest for allegedly holding his stepson at gunpoint. A $30,000 reward is associated with case information.
