Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s body has been handed over to his mother, according to Ivan Zhdanov, director of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, who thanked those who called on Russian authorities to return Navalny’s body. Navalny died unexpectedly on February 16th in an Arctic penal colony; his family has been fighting for his body’s return since then. Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, has been in the Arctic region for over a week, demanding that Russian authorities return her son’s body. Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s widow, accused President Vladimir Putin of mocking Christianity by trying to force a secret funeral. Navalnaya called Putin a murderer, and the Kremlin has rejected these claims.
