Davenport’s Became An Unlikely Cabaret Success Story In The Heart Of Wicker Park

Davenport’s Piano Bar & Cabaret, opened on Milwaukee Avenue, Wicker Park in November 1998, is celebrating its 25th birthday. The unconventional cabaret, which started in a former furniture store, found success despite the fading popularity of cabarets. Davenport’s was unique, with performers singing a mix of show tunes, Motown, and Queen, while also serving drinks to the guests. The owners’ decision to buy the building has allowed the venue to withstand gentrification, and it has remained popular with a wide demographic of guests, from 21-year-olds to those in their 80s. Despite changes in ownership and enduring the pandemic, the venue has kept its original atmosphere and continues to host a busy lineup of cabaret acts.
