San Diego City Council has approved approximately $15.9 million in capital-improvement projects across 19 parks in the city. The funding is part of Mayor Todd Gloria’s Parks for All of Us initiative and includes allocations for land acquisition, improvements to existing parks, and new construction. The projects will be located mainly in “park-deficient” communities and Communities of Concern. An additional $363,000 was awarded in community-based Development Impact Fee (DIF) funds. Established in August 2021, the citywide Park DIF program previously allowed funds to be spent only in the communities where the fees were collected, often leading to wealthier areas receiving more funding.
