The U.S. military has reported 166 attacks on its installations since October 18, 2021, from Iran-aligned militias including Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah. Among these, 67 occurred in Iraq, 98 in Syria, and one in Jordan. In response, the U.S. has launched several retaliatory strikes against these militias’ bases in Iraq and Syria. Amid these conflicts, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, warned of a “strong response” should Iran be attacked, raising concerns of a potential wider conflict in the region. Meanwhile, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen continue to launch attacks against shipping in the Red Sea, prompting counterstrikes from the U.S. and U.K. militaries.
