Two children die after falling into river at Shasta Dam campsite in Northern California

Two children lost their lives after falling into a river near a campground at Lake Shasta, Northern California. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office reported that they responded to the incident around 9 a.m. following reports of children being swept away near the Shasta Dam. Search and rescue operations, including a diving team, were deployed and the children’s bodies were later recovered. The water flow from the dam was temporarily decreased during the operations. The circumstances leading to the children falling into the river remain unknown.
