Lakewood Church shooter’s 7-year-old son loses part of his brain, according to grandmother – Houston Public Media
The 7-year-old son of the Lakewood Church shooter, Samuel Moreno-Carranza, has undergone multiple brain surgeries after being critically injured during a gunfire exchange at the Houston megachurch. His mother, Genesse Ivonne Moreno, had brought him into the church armed with two guns and was shot and killed at the scene. Samuel lost a portion of his frontal lobe and his condition remains uncertain. Samuel’s grandmother, Walli Carranza, has blamed Texas’ lax gun laws and the failure of children’s protective services for the incident, as multiple attempts to have Samuel removed from his mother’s custody, who had a history of severe mental illness, were unsuccessful. Moreno used a legally purchased assault rifle in the attack.
