Chita Rivera, a ten-time Tony nominated dancer, singer, and actor, has passed away at the age of 91. Rivera, known for her breakthrough role as Anita in the 1957 production of “West Side Story”, had a Broadway career spanning over 50 years. In 2009, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor the U.S. can give a civilian. Rivera overcame a near-fatal car accident in 1988, continuing to perform on Broadway into her eighties. Throughout her career, she worked with many of Broadway’s greatest talents and won Tonys for her roles in “The Rink” in 1984 and “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in 1993.
