In the ninth hour of the IMSA race, Pipo Derani was leading but quickly pitted and handed over the No. 31 Cadillac to his teammate Aitken. This led to Nick Tandy temporarily taking the lead in the No. 6 Porsche before passing it to Felipe Nasr in the No. 7 car while Aitken maintained third. Notable incidents include Jenson Button colliding with a Chevrolet Corvette GT.3 R and the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura suffering a power issue. Through pit stops and strategic play, the lead changed hands a few times, with Aitken holding a 3s lead on Laurens Vanthoor in the final moments. Inter Europol/PR1 Mathiesen was able to take the LMP2 lead late in the race while Risi Competizioni established pace in GTD.
