During the second day of the U.N. Climate Summit (COP28), leaders from developing nations urged wealthy industrial countries to share their knowledge on combating global warming and alleviate their financial burdens. Pope Francis injected moral authority into the talks, saying “the poor are the real victims of what is happening”. Additionally, 50 oil companies pledged to achieve near-zero methane emissions and end routine flaring in their operations by 2030. The United States pledged $3 billion to the Green Climate Fund and joined 115 nations in a commitment to double energy efficiency and triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. Lastly, more than 20 nations called for a tripling of nuclear energy generated globally by 2050.
