Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has apprehended the driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Orange County. The crash took place at approximately 3:43 a.m. on Edgewater Drive, near Hambleton Avenue, from the south.
According to the FHP, a 2005 Ford Excursion veered off the road to the right side and collided with a pole. Subsequently, the vehicle crashed into the Henao Contemporary Center, another pole, a parked Jeep Cherokee, and tragically, a pedestrian. The 19-year-old Orlando man who was struck was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. Fortunately, an individual inside the building suffered only minor injuries from debris.
Following a thorough investigation, the FHP identified the driver of the Ford as 20-year-old Alexis Omar Leon Lima. Without incident, Lima was arrested and subsequently booked into the Orange County Jail. He now faces charges for leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injuries, and driving without a license causing death.
