American Woman Arrested in Bahamas for Conspiring to Kill Husband, Court Documents Show

An American woman has been arrested and charged in the Bahamas for allegedly conspiring to kill her husband, according to court documents and a police news release viewed by CNN. The accused, Lindsay Shiver, 36, of Thomasville, Georgia, is said to have conspired with two Bahamian natives, Terrance Adrian Bethel, 28, and Farron Newbold Jr., 29, to carry out the murder plot.

Prosecutors allege that the three defendants planned to kill Lindsay Shiver’s husband, Robert Shiver, on July 16th while they were together on the Abaco Islands. Lindsay and Robert Shiver, both Auburn University alumni, had filed for divorce several months prior to the alleged conspiracy.

Bethel and Newbold Jr. were also taken into police custody and now face charges of conspiracy to commit murder. All three defendants were flown to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, after their arrest.

The plot was reportedly foiled by Bahamian police who obtained crucial information from a phone recovered during a separate criminal investigation. The phone, which belonged to an unidentified individual, contained written messages detailing the sinister plot. The police source, who spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity, did not provide further details about the ongoing investigation.

During a Friday arraignment, attorneys represented the defendants in court. The defendants were not required to enter a plea and have been remanded to the Bahamas corrections department until their court hearing on October 5th.

According to court filings, Robert Shiver cited Lindsay Shiver’s “adulterous conduct” as a reason for divorce, claiming that the marriage is irreparably broken. Lindsay Shiver, on the other hand, stated in her filing that she had incurred debts beyond her means and requested that Robert Shiver be made responsible for them.

Pictures from a social media account believed to belong to Lindsay Shiver show that the couple has spent a significant amount of time in the Bahamas. Robert Shiver works as an insurance executive in Thomasville and was misidentified as Richard Shiver in the Bahamian court documents. He is a former member of the Auburn University football team and briefly played for an NFL team.

The investigation into the alleged murder conspiracy is ongoing, and CNN has reached out to the attorneys representing both Lindsay and Robert Shiver in the divorce case.
