Egyptian actor Bassem Youssef alleges that he lost a role in James Gunn’s upcoming Warner Bros. DC Studios film, “Superman: Legacy,” due to comments he made criticizing Israel. Youssef was reportedly in discussions for a minor role, but was informed that the role was removed from the script after script changes. Insiders, however, claim that the role was cut due to the writers’ strike that concluded in September, also indicating that Youssef never received a formal offer. The movie, starring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, is set to be in theaters by July 11, 2025. The Israel-Hamas war remains a controversial topic in Hollywood.
