The National Rifle Association (NRA) and its former head, Wayne LaPierre, have been found liable in a civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The lawsuit accused LaPierre and other NRA leaders, John Frazer and Wilson “Woody” Phillips, of misusing financial resources and providing false information on state filings. Evidence presented during the trial detailed LaPierre’s extravagant spending on private flights and costly gifts. The jury ruled that the NRA improperly managed the organization and its assets, and that LaPierre, Phillips, and Frazer failed to fulfill their duties in good faith. LaPierre, who resigned from the NRA last month, has been ordered to repay $4.4 million to the organization.
