Nearly half of the US spending on Valentine’s Day gifts is made between February 11 and February 14, with sales peaking on the day itself, according to market research company Numerator. Retail giant Walmart reported that around 75% of its Valentine’s Day sales occurred on February 13 and 14, and these two days accounted for 80% of Kroger’s sales during the Valentine’s week. Despite the procrastination, Americans are expected to spend a total of $25.8 billion, with candy being the most popular gift. Other popular purchases include greeting cards and Valentine’s-themed potted plants. Furthermore, data from Walgreens implies that procrastination is part of the holiday tradition.
