LIVINGSTON, Texas – Missing 11-year-old, Audrii Cunningham’s body found, charges expected against suspect

The body of 11-year-old Audrii Cunningham found and authorities expect to file charges against a suspect connected to her disappearance. The area being searched was declared a crime scene before her body was located, according to Texas DPS Lt. Craig Cummings. The crime scene includes an area around US-59 and the Trinity River Bridge.

Audrii had been missing since Thursday, Feb. 15. Don Steven McDougal, initially a person of interest, is now a suspect. He was allowed to live in a trailer behind Audrii’s father’s house in Livingston. McDougal admitted to leaving the house with Audrii the morning she vanished, but did not reveal what happened next.

Records show McDougal was indicted on attempted indecency with a child almost 17 years ago, but pleaded down to child enticement in 2008. He was seen at a mechanic shop near Highway 59 in Livingston the day Audrii disappeared. Employees reported McDougal acting suspicious and covered in dirt.

Following the disappearance, McDougal took investigators to several locations, including the Livingston Dam, where they believe they found Audrii’s wet backpack. Despite his cooperation, McDougal has not confessed to anything connected to Audrii’s disappearance. He is currently in Polk County Jail on an unrelated aggravated assault charge.

Investigators ask for public help, specifically any video of FM 3126 on Feb. 15 between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., which is when McDougal left the house with Audrii. They are particularly interested in footage of his 2003 blue Chevrolet Suburban. The reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case has been raised to $10,000.
