The Lightship L1 Electric Trailer Is Almost Aerodynamic As A Tesla Model 3

9

Startup Lightship has developed the L1, an aerodynamic trailer equipped with electric motors, designed to be towed behind electric vehicles with minimal impact on range. The company’s testing shows Lightship’s trailer increases efficiency, with a Rivian R1T achieving 1.26 miles per kilowatt-hour towing the trailer, 35% better than using a traditional trailer. Aerodynamic testing was conducted using software developed by Angus Locke, a former Tesla Roadster aerodynamicist. The L1 Essential, a model without drive motors, will start at $125,000, while the L1 Long Range, equipped with motors, will start at $151,000. Production is set to begin next year.
