Chicago’s Hip House Legacy Celebrated in Xfinity Docuseries Gala

The documentary series “In Our DNA: Hip House” premiered at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, as a result of a collaboration between Black Encounter on Xfinity and 300 Studios. The series traces the history of hip-house music, examining its origins, rise, fall and subsequent revival. Key figures in the genre, including DJ Spen, Eric Welton, Fast Eddie, and Terry Hunter, among others, were present at the event. The event sought to pay tribute to the legendary artists who pioneered hip-house and provide a comprehensive understanding of the genre’s development. The series aims to give due recognition to artists who have been overlooked in the public and media narratives about the genre’s inception.
