Significant Snowfall Expected in New Hampshire This Saturday

TL/DR –

A major storm will move into New Hampshire starting late Friday night and going into Saturday. The storm will begin as snow and potentially shift to an icy mix in central and southern areas, before changing to rain, especially towards the Seacoast. Northern New Hampshire may see up to 12 to 18 inches of snow, while southern areas could experience 3-6 inches of snow before it is washed away by heavy rain.

New Hampshire’s Major Winter Storm Warning

Clouds are set to thicken Friday night ahead of a significant storm, which will move in overnight and last all day Saturday. A winter storm warning is in effect for all of New Hampshire, apart from eastern Hillsborough County and Rockingham County, which have a winter weather advisory from 2am until midday Saturday. For the latest updates, check the National Weather Service alerts and bulletins.

In Rockingham and eastern Hillsborough counties, areas expected to receive the most rain, a flood watch is in effect. Snowfall is predicted to begin late Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. This will likely cause slippery conditions on the roads in northern and central NH for the duration of the day. Southern areas should expect slippery roads from snow and an icy mix in addition to potential ponding from heavy late-morning and afternoon rain. All precipitation is set to end by midnight Saturday. Snow and Rain Projections

Snow is forecasted to start in most areas, changing to an icy mix in central and southern regions and later to rain, particularly near the Seacoast. Northern New Hampshire will likely experience all snow, with expected accumulation of 12 to 18 inches, with higher amounts in elevated areas.

The area south from Plymouth through Lebanon to Laconia is the trickiest to predict, but estimates show a potential for 6 to 12 inches of snow. These amounts depend on how long the snow lasts and how far north the changeover to rain occurs. Near the Lakes Region to Hooksett, expectation is for 3-6 inches of snow, with 1-3 inches through Manchester and towards the coast. Much of these accumulations may be washed away by heavy rain, but precipitation could end as a bit of snow Saturday evening.
