Biden Invests $25 Million in Ads Prior to GOP Debate

President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign has announced that it will spend $25 million on ads in key swing states to draw a contrast with the GOP agenda. The ads will air over the next 16 weeks on television and digital platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, with a specific focus on President Biden’s manufacturing policies and appeals to Black and Hispanic voters. The campaign also plans to air the ads during the NFL’s opening weekend and baseball’s World Series.

The ad buy, described as “the largest overall buy for a reelection campaign at this point in time ever” by Biden’s campaign, will target voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. This includes Milwaukee, the site of the first Republican National Committee debate on Wednesday, as well as the location for the Republican nominating convention next summer. The campaign will also air targeted ads in Florida to woo Hispanic voters in the state.

One of the ads, titled “Fought Back,” highlights President Biden’s role in the country’s economic recovery after the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic. It aims to reframe the discussion about the economy in light of Biden’s low poll numbers on his handling of the economy. The ad emphasizes Biden’s passage of historic laws to rebuild the country and positions the American people as the heroes of the story.

Another ad, targeted at Hispanic voters, focuses on Biden’s economic agenda and cuts to insulin costs. It portrays President Biden as fighting for the interests of the American people rather than the rich and powerful. The campaign seeks to contrast Biden’s optimistic vision of America with what they describe as the “dark and divisive picture of our nation” presented by MAGA Republicans.

Biden’s approval rating on his handling of the economy has been in the mid-30s, according to recent polls. In an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll, his numbers were poor even among Democrats, with only 65% approving of his performance. In a CNN poll, 52% of Americans said they think the economy is getting worse, with 37% approving of Biden’s economic performance and 30% in favor of his handling of inflation. Just 26% of independents approved of his work to address inflation.

Ahead of the first Republican National Committee debate, Biden’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee are set to hold a press conference in Milwaukee. The campaign aims to introduce Americans to what they describe as the “most extreme slate of candidates in history.” DNC chair Jamie Harrison, Biden-Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond, Madison, Wis., Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway, and Wisconsin’s Democratic Party chair Ben Wikler are expected to speak at the press conference.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager, stated that while Republicans present their divisive and unpopular agenda in Milwaukee, President Biden will amplify his winning message and leadership as a president for all Americans. The $25 million ad campaign is part of the campaign’s efforts to reach Americans across the country with Biden and Harris’ message for the middle class and fundamental freedoms.

Overall, President Biden’s reelection campaign is investing heavily in ads to draw a contrast with the GOP agenda, targeting swing states and emphasizing manufacturing policies and appeals to Black and Hispanic voters. The campaign aims to reframe the discussion about the economy and present President Biden as a leader fighting for the American people. As the first Republican primary debate approaches, Biden’s campaign is focused on amplifying their message and leadership to reach Americans nationwide.
