According to CHP, a big rig driver was shot and crashed on I-5 in San Joaquin County.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials are investigating a shooting incident that took place on Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County on Thursday. The incident resulted in serious injuries to a truck driver who was shot while driving on the interstate. After being shot, the driver left the highway and crashed into two parked, unoccupied vehicles before crashing into a business. The driver’s condition is unknown at this time.

Around 12:48 pm, CHP officers began receiving reports of a truck driving off the freeway and gunshots in the area. Officer Ruben Jones urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, stating that “nothing is too small.” Anyone who saw or heard anything during the 12:45 to 12:48 time frame can call the tipline at 916-731-6580.

The truck involved in the incident bore the Amazon branding, and although the company responded to KCRA 3’s request for comment, they did not provide any additional information. The driver was identified as a 32-year-old male from North Carolina.

No one else was injured in the incident, which took place in a busy commercial area. Xavier Parker-Guerrero, who works at Guerrero’s Tires, was working in the shop when he heard the crash. He expressed his hopes for the driver’s recovery and emphasized that he was grateful that no one else was hurt.

CHP officials are asking anyone who was driving northbound on I-5 between SR-120 and Louise Ave on Thursday between 12:30 pm and 1:00 pm with dashcam footage to come forward. Any footage of the area during this time frame could be helpful, and CHP officials urged those who saw the truck leave the roadway and crash into a building to contact the CHP Valley Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU).

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact either the ISU at (916)731-6580 or CHP-Stockton at (209)938-4800 and ask for Officer Jones. This is a developing story, and KCRA 3 will provide updates as more information becomes available.
