The Khmelnytskyi territorial community has joined the “Zero Waste City” program. The program, coordinated by Zero Waste Europe and its Mission Zero Academy (MIZA) subsidiary, helps cities transition to a system that prevents waste and is resource-efficient. In Ukraine, the program is coordinated by the Public Union “Ukrainian Alliance Zero Waste.” By 2028, the Khmelnytskyi territorial community is committed to take measures that will allow it to achieve the internationally recognized status of “Zero Waste City.” Among the key commitments is to reduce household waste per capita, increase separate collection of household waste, ensure centralized composting in the community, and work towards achieving 90% diversion of household waste from harmful disposal methods. The community will undergo its first independent audit in three years to achieve “Zero Waste City” status.
