US Climate Funds Granted to Group Supporting Hamas

Republicans have accused the Biden administration of setting aside millions from its environmental budget for a climate justice group that campaigns against Israel. The Environmental Protection Agency reportedly plans to give $50 million from the $40 billion Inflation Reduction Act funding to the Climate Justice Alliance, which is viewed as “antisemitic” according to Republican senator Shelley Moore Capito. The Climate Justice Alliance, a conglomerate of 89 organizations and networks in the climate justice movement, has a campaign for Palestine identified on its website.

Republicans Challenge Biden Administration’s Environmental Budget Allocation

The Biden administration is under fire by Republicans, accused of siphoning millions of dollars from its environmental budget to a climate justice organization known for campaigning against Israel in an effort to “decolonise Palestine”. This allocation of funds is part of the larger Inflation Reduction Act, which earmarks over $40 billion for climate improvement initiatives.

West Virginia Republican Senator Shelley Moore Capito criticized the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plan to grant $50 million to the Climate Justice Alliance. Capito and other critics label the alliance as “antisemitic.”

The Alliance comprises 89 “urban and rural frontline communities, organizations and supporting networks in the climate justice movement”. Its campaign for Palestine is detailed on its website, showcasing a video outlining its stance and objectives.

The Climate Justice Alliance calls on communities advocating for climate justice to insist on a reduction in military funding to Israel as a step towards achieving its objectives.
