Philly police special unit targets weekend crime

The Philadelphia Police Department plans to enhance weekend patrols with a special “roving” unit, aimed at addressing hotspots including car meet-ups and mass gatherings. First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford announced that a significant number of uniformed officers in marked vehicles will be added to fight crime on weekends, without specifying the exact number. The additional staff from non-patrol units will be deployed on Friday and Saturday nights, with the aim of addressing challenges faced due to staffing issues and providing an extra level of safety for officers.
