Manhunt for Escaped Convict Intensifies as Sightings Increase

Authorities in Pennsylvania are conducting a massive 24-hour operation to capture Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted killer who escaped from a county correctional facility on August 31. As the search enters its 10th day, nearly 400 officers have been assigned to the search efforts, with additional law enforcement personnel joining in as the number of reported sightings of Cavalcante in Chester County continues to grow. Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens provided a tour of the command center, showing a live map of the search perimeter where tactical teams, K-9 dogs, and a helicopter are scouring for any signs of the fugitive.

Cavalcante, 34, escaped from Chester County Prison by “crab walking” between two walls, scaling a fence, and traversing razor wire. The escape, caught on surveillance video, went unnoticed by the prison tower guard on duty at the time, who has since been fired. The inmate’s escape has caused distress among residents and fear among the victim’s family. Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandão, in Chester County. He is also wanted in a 2017 homicide case in Brazil.

Since his escape, there have been several credible sightings of Cavalcante. On August 31, he was seen on jail surveillance video escaping from the prison. He was then spotted inside a resident’s home in Pocopson Township the following day, where he took food before leaving. On September 2, Cavalcante was captured on surveillance video about 1.5 miles from the prison. More recently, he has been spotted in or around Longwood Gardens, located about 3 miles from the prison.

Authorities are confident that they will be able to bring Cavalcante back into custody as the search intensifies. Lt. Col. Bivens stated that their intent is to pressure him, leading him to make a mistake and expose himself. The search efforts involve tactical teams, K-9 dogs, and a helicopter, with law enforcement personnel working 12-hour shifts at the command center.

As the manhunt continues, the community remains on high alert, and the search efforts are being conducted with utmost urgency. The capture of Cavalcante is of paramount importance to ensure the safety of the public and bring justice to the victim and her family.
