GSEHD alumna Melvina Noel, Ed.D.’00, has recently released a new book entitled “Chef Edna: Queen of Southern Cooking, Edna Lewis.” This heartwarming picture book pays homage to the African American culinary legend, Edna Lewis. Growing up in Freetown, Virginia, Lewis carried her Southern roots with her to New York City, where she would go on to become a renowned chef, skillfully blending traditional French cuisine with her signature Southern style.

Noel’s book, beautifully illustrated by Caldecott-honor recipient Cozbi A. Cabrera, provides readers with an engaging visual representation of Lewis’ inspiring journey.
