FBI Special Agents Fatally Shoot Utah Man Suspected of Threatening President Biden

In a tragic turn of events, FBI special agents shot and killed a man in Utah on Wednesday while attempting to arrest him for allegedly making threats against President Joe Biden. The incident occurred just ahead of the president’s scheduled trip to the state. According to a law enforcement source familiar with the incident, the man, identified as Craig Robertson, pointed a gun at FBI SWAT agents after they gave him commands.

Robertson was facing three federal charges, including threats against the president and influencing, impeding, and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat. Investigators noted that he appeared to own a sniper rifle and several other firearms. Some of the threats made by Robertson were directed at President Biden’s planned trip to Utah, with one message reading, “DIGGING OUT MY OLD GHILLE SUIT AND CLEANING THE DUST OFF THE M24 SNIPER RIFLE. WELCOME, BUFFOON-IN-CHIEF!”

Not only did Robertson target President Biden, but he also made online threats against other Democratic politicians and prosecutors who have brought cases against former President Donald Trump. FBI Director Christopher Wray recently highlighted the “unprecedented” level of threats against FBI agents and national and local leaders in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

In a post on Monday, Robertson taunted the FBI, asking if they were still monitoring his social media and stating that he would have a loaded gun handy if they visited again. President Biden was briefed on the matter in New Mexico, where he delivered remarks on manufacturing before heading to Salt Lake City.

The FBI is currently reviewing the agent-involved shooting, which took place in Provo, Utah. In a statement to CNN, an FBI spokesperson said, “The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division.”

The US Secret Service, responsible for protecting high-level government officials, including President Biden, referred questions to the FBI regarding their investigation into Robertson’s threats. Robertson also allegedly made threats on Facebook against Attorney General Merrick Garland and other politicians.

This incident serves as a chilling reminder of the growing vitriol and threats aimed at political leaders and law enforcement officers. As the 2024 election approaches, security agencies must remain vigilant in their efforts to protect public figures and maintain the safety of the nation.
