The US may fail to provide the promised share of $6 billion in aid that Ukraine desperately needs. The financial year in the US ends on September 30th, which means the $6 billion may “burn out.” In April, the US approved an aid package to Ukraine of over $60 billion given in parts. A portion of these funds ($7.8 billion) can be allocated by President Joe Biden’s legal decision. However, $6 billion of this aid has not yet been used. With the US also experiencing a deficit in artillery ammunition, rockets, and air defense interceptors, the situation is raising concerns. The Biden administration is holding private talks with Congress to “transfer” the funds to another program that will not end on September 30th. There’s a possibility that funds would be used before the end of September, or the Secretary of State could announce an obligation to use the remaining funds for future military aid packages.
