On September 28, during the City Day in Khmelnitsky, Ukraine, 72 families of fallen heroes were posthumously awarded the title “Honorary Citizen of the Khmelnitsky Community”. The ceremony took place at the regional music and drama theater named after M. Starytsky. The city mayor, Oleksandr Simchyshyn, noted that there is no award that can equate to the lives of the city’s best warriors, and emphasized that it is the least that can be done to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers and to thank their families. Along with the award, one-time compensation of 160,000 hryvnia is provided. The youngest Honorary Citizen of the city community was an 18-year-old National Guard soldier, Pavlo Fostik, who died in May 2024.
