The full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war has caused widespread disruption and loss, especially among the children of Ukraine, with an average of two children being killed or wounded daily, according to UNICEF. The war has displaced huge numbers of children, with 1.8 million leaving the country and another 2.5 million becoming internally displaced. Alarmingly, at least 19,546 children have been deported to Russia, and 2015 are considered missing, leading the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to classify the deportation as genocide. The effects of the war range from psychological trauma to illegal removal to the aggressor nation’s territory, and potentially, abuse and torture. The Ukrainian government and non-governmental organizations are actively collecting evidence of these crimes for future prosecution in international courts.
